What is the Criminal Record?

Criminal Records prove your identity (name, date of birth, address, etc.) and show whether you don’t have any history of crimes. It is also called:

    • Police Certificate(PCC)
    • Police Check
    • Certificate of Good Conduct
    • Criminal Report
    • Background Check

Have you ever stayed in South Korea for more than six months?

And you are applying for permanent residence in Canada? Then you need to prepare your Criminal Record in South Korea.

Criminal Records in South Korea?

In Korea, Criminal Records are called 범죄· 수사 경력 회보서,’ and they divide into two kinds according to the purpose of reference.

1.    For permission of foreign country immigration and stay

2.    For confirmation of investigation card materials (Including lapsed of criminal sentences)

In most cases in Canada, you would be asked to present the latter document (For confirmation of investigation card materials (Including lapsed of criminal sentences)).

Then how can I obtain a Criminal Record in South Korea?

If you are currently in South Korea:

Visit the nearest Korean National Police Station, and request a Criminal Record. Check the right purpose of reference and don’t forget to include all lapsed records. You will need your ID card, passport, and one passport size photo. Your record will have to be picked by you in person.

If you are currently not in South Korea:

You will need a representative in South Korea who can assist you with the whole Criminal Record application process. Moreover, you will need:

  • Power of Attorney
  • Original Passport or ID of the person who represents you.
  • Copy of your passport
  • Copy of Korean identification (registration card) you used to have
  • One passport size photo
  • Consent form which can be downloaded from the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA)'s official (available in Korean only). Your signature on the consent form should match your signature in your passport.)
  • Certificate of your Entry/Exit Record issued by Korean Immigration. To obtain the Entry/Exit record, you must submit the passport or ID of your representative, a copy of your passport and a consent form from you. The Korean Immigration consent form can be downloaded from downloaded from the Hi Korea website.

However, for people who are not Korean and who are living outside of Korea, preparing everything you need and following the procedure are not easy at all. That’s why I recommend you to get help from a Criminal Record application agency. At KICPC, you can issue Criminal Record online easily and quickly. The ordinary service takes 5 days, but you can also use the express service which takes only 6 hours for issuance. For more information, visit the website KICPC or contact us through this page.
